Burka ban kicks in in France

As of today, no more full face coverings of any kind in France.

PARIS, April 11 (Reuters) – France’s ban on full face veils, a first in Europe, went into force on Monday, exposing anyone who wears the Muslim niqab or burqa in public to fines of 150 euros ($216).

Good. There is absolutely no place in Western society for someone’s identity in public to be withheld.

THE federal opposition has backed a West Australian minister’s controversial comments on the burka, saying the dress goes against Australian culture and should not be worn.

WA Minister for Women’s Interests Robyn McSweeney sparked heated debate when she spoke out against the burka at the weekend, labelling it “alien” to Australia’s way of life. “I’m saying that it’s confronting when somebody’s face is not showing and I personally think that they’re being oppressed,” Ms McSweeney told The Australian yesterday. “I would just love for them to have the freedom to show their faces.”

Global Terror Alliances

The Left versus Islam?

Not really. Not yet, anyway.

The FBI arrests affirm an emerging terror alliance between American-based leftists, Islamic terror organizations, Colombia’s FARC, and Irish Republican groups.

However, the Koran’s Surah Al Ma’idah Ch. 5 V.32 states “that if anyone kills any other human being, whether it be a Muslim or non-Muslim, unless it be for murder or for spreading corruption in the land, it is though he has killed the whole of humanity… so killing any other human being…it is prohibited in Islam.”

But what if I, you, and/or the West is deemed to be “spreading corruption”? Considering we don’t adhere to the Koran, wouldn’t that be the case?

Leftwing Green (GroenLinks) leader Femke Halsema believes that progressive politicians and thinkers should dare to make more criticisms of Islam.

Take homosexuals for example.

Indeed. Examining radical Islam shouldn’t and needn’t be divided, as it too often is, along Left/Right lines.

Arguably, it is the progressives who have the most to fear and lose when it comes to things like Sharia law and Islamic terrorism.

Tony Blair: West’s efforts on terror fail

Tony Blair, like him or not, notes that whilst the West is busy attacking terrorism, many in the Muslim world believe it is an attack on Islam as a whole.

Tony Blair has called for a “revolution in thinking” on international counter-terrorism, saying the “paucity” of the west’s efforts have left it “outspent, outmanoeuvred and out-strategised” by Islamist extremism.

Speaking in New York to a thinktank, the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, Blair said a failure to challenge the “narrative” that Muslims were oppressed by the west was fuelling extremism around the world. Instead, the majority had accepted the idea that military interventions since the 9/11 attacks were an explicit attack on Muslims. “The practitioners of extremism are small in number. The adherents of the narrative stretch far broader into parts of mainstream thinking,” he said.

Of course, we aren’t attacking terrorists because they’re Muslim. We’re attacking them because they’re terrorists. And if Muslims want to compare apples with oranges and take our vocal criticisms of Islam as an attack in the same vein as shooting a bullet into an insurgent’s head, that’s a real shame.

The fact remains that whilst most Muslims aren’t terrorists, most terrorists are Muslim. That means that it’s perfectly warranted and reasonable for us to have a good, hard look at Islam to try and figure out why this is. And perhaps if many more – and let’s face it, almost none do – regular Muslims spoke out against terrorism, then perhaps the religion as a whole wouldn’t be so, er, critiqued.

Just sayin’…

Burqa banned… almost

In Western society, it’s important to be able to see the other person’s face in public, and France agrees.

The French Senate has overwhelmingly passed a bill banning the burqa-style Islamic veil on public streets and other places, a measure that affects fewer than 2000 women but is widely seen as a symbolic defence of French values.

The Senate voted 246 to 1 on Tuesday in favour of the bill in a final step toward making the ban a law – though it now must pass muster with France’s constitutional watchdog.

And lest we forget, there’s absolutely nothing in the Koran that states a burqa must be worn. It is quite simply an oppressive cultural relic that should never have been conceived in the first place and which belongs nowhere.

Belgium may be next to follow suit.

To burn or not to burn?

First it was on, then it was off based on a mutual promise, but then that promise apparently never was, and now it’s on again… maybe.

Guess we’ll find out tomorrow.

Many folks around the world are concerned about radical Islam and the ensuing terrorism, but burning a Koran doesn’t come across as a particularly Christian thing to do.

Originally, part of the deal was that the Iman would move the Ground Zero mosque. Later they said they never said that. And thanks to PACO, we hear that there could/would well be violent backlashes if it were moved.

Mirror mirror on the wall

Andrew Bolt today put up a Lateline clip of Hirsi Ali, a former Muslim, who is in Australia at the moment. What she said in that clip pretty much mirrors what I said here a few days ago.

The world needs to have a good hard look at Islam and Islam needs to have a good hard look at itself.

So talk me through this again; just why do we let scum like this into Australia to speak in the first place? This time it’s a lifeform known as “British” Hizb ut-Tahrir leader Burhan Hanif who yesterday called for Aussie Muslims to be at the vanguard of bringing Australia into the folds of a trans-national Islamic caliphate.

About 500 people turned up to hear gems like the following:

He called Australia “this godforsaken country”. Hey pal, we’ve done more with our desert in 200 years than you’ve managed in around 1500 years.

“We must adhere to Islam and Islam alone.We should not be conned or succumb to the disingenuous and flawed narrative that the only way to engage politically is through the secular democratic process. It is prohibited and haram.”

His buddy, Aussie HT “leader”, Wassim Dourehi, described democracy and freedom as “erroneous”. Nice one. No use people having a say in their own lives. Nah, trust that to some dead bloke warmonger who married a six year old.

Dourehi went on to take a swipe at moderate Muslims, too.

There’s more at the link. But here’s what I don’t get: These guys are banned even in the Middle East.  So why the hell are Western governments letting them continue? OK, so ASIO said back in 2007 that they didn’t directly support terrorism and maybe we don’t have a specific law yet that could target these usurpers.

We should have. After all, they said it and we know it… or at least we should.

These people (the radicals) are in our country or one reason and one reason only – to overthrow our way of life, and if we don’t submit to Islam, then kill us.

They may be just a small scratch on the skin of Civilisation, but that scratch is laced with poison and every day we attend not to it, it festers and that poison seeps into our blood.

Dishonour

A father and brother have been given life sentences for “honour” killing a 16 year old family member.

The girl, originally from Pakistan but then living in Canada, didn’t want to wear her hijab or traditional clothes and brought further shame to her father by wanting to indulge in other nasty Western habits like getting a part-time job or choosing her own husband.

Rewriting history

Could it be possible that Islam, whose light ended the Dark Ages in Europe…

That’s a new one. At best, it’s a pretty interesting take on old Greek and Roman texts being brought back to Italy by refugees after the fall of Christian Constantinople at the hands of the Muslim Ottomans.

Music banned

Where’s the outcry from the moderates? Do they even exist in significant numbers?

It really irks me when the thugs take over using Islam as a guise. I hope that’s the case, anyway…

Mogadishu-based radio stations stopped playing all music on Tuesday following an ultimatum by hardline Islamist militia in a sign of the insurgents’ tightening grip on the Somali capital.

The city’s 14 radio stations turned off the Western, Arabic and modern Somali and other African music that fills up their 18-hour broadcast time after an ultimatum by the Hezb al-Islam group expired.

Hezb al-Islam, which controls patches of the war-wracked capital, had given the popular stations 10 days to shut down “evil” music broadcasts.
