Honeymoon over: HSU ALP split

How convenient for federal Labor, already so tarnished by the Craig Thompson affair and Bob Kernohan’s stat. dec.

THE Health Services Union has cut its ties with the Labor Party following weeks of revelations of alleged financial irregularities in the union.

The HSU East branch of the union, which takes in NSW, Victoria and the ACT, took the decision to disaffiliate from the ALP at a meeting of the union’s council this morning.

HSU national secretary Kathy Jackson reportedly voted against the resolution, which was urged by the NSW branch of the union.

Such posturing by the union will hardly wash away the stink caused by the long standing ties between the ALP and unions in general.
