Tsk, tsk, facebook

Glad I don’t use it too often even though it sounds like that wouldn’t necessarily matter so much.

FACEBOOK has promised an Australian blogger that it will ”fix” a major privacy breach that he has exposed within 24 hours.

Security consultant and blogger Nik Cubrilovic this afternoon told The Australian that Facebook had promised to revise its browser cookies so that they no longer collect identifiable information after a user had logged out.

Moral of the story? Don’t look up porn after looking up facebook.

Mr Cubrilovic sparked a major privacy debate after posting a blog late on Sunday which demonstrated that Facebook was still collecting identifiable information about users after they had logged out from the social network.

  1. Or just clear your cookies when you’re done with Facebook, lots of advertising networks still use tracking cookies to track (as the name suggests) users.

    • Sage advice for anyone concerned because it sure as heck isn’t just facebook doing this stuff. That said, with millions if not billions of internet users, it’s not as if “they” are stalking “you” personally anyway.

Does clear recent history clear cookies in firefox?

    • yes

    • Yep, just go to this Mozilla help page at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Clear%20Recent%20History#w_how-do-i-clear-my-history it shows how to see what Firefox is clearing and you can change what you want to remove.

I just use the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Delete when I’m done with websites that uses log-ins.

Also, I unchecked “Accept Third-party cookies” which are usually issued by advertising companies, all other websites such as WordPress, Google, Facebook etc. should use normal cookies. However, if you run into any problems with websites you’re using in your test run of the setting just go back to using them.

  1. No trackbacks yet.

Surely you're thinking something...
