Freedom of speech vs the Left

In the US, home owners have a constitutional right to place signs on their property.

However, a New Orlean’s home owner is causing a stir by putting up some (pretty funny and poignant) anti-Obama billboards.

Some protesters have demanded they be taken down, seemingly oblivious to the US Constitution’s First Ammendment right to free speech.

Naturally, the Democrat city council is busily searching through every by-law they have to try and come up with an excuse for denying the home owner his First Ammendment right.

  1. Great post!

    • It’s a great story. The Left in general only like freedom of speech when it’s something they agree with. Otherwise, it’s of to the courts we go. There are but a few who stick up for it when the stuff being said isn’t something they like.

For most Lefties, their continual failure to grasp the irony of their position used to be amusing.

I forget the origin of this quote, but it goes a very long way to explain the unfathomable hypocrisy of lefties: “The progressive mindset believes itself to be synonymous with virtue.”

Free speech is just fine and dandy. But if you disagree with them, you must be lacking in virtue. Therefore you are either stupid or evil…

Returning to my previous links about the disgrace going on in the Kimberley at the moment:

‘None of the protesters interviewed by The Weekend Australian was from the Kimberley, but all said the fight was now a national and international issue that was gathering pace on various well-visited websites that linked green groups across the globe.

Carter McDonald, 40, from Gympie, was planning to head to Tibet and Nepal but decided to come to the Kimberley because “this is the most important thing I can do”.

Having grown up in Papua New Guinea, he compared the fight over the gas hub with Australian soldiers fighting the Japanese along the Kokoda Track.

Liz, who didn’t give her surname, said she missed out on her 17-year-old son’s graduation because she believed this fight was more important.’

They dont know, they dont care, but they know whats best for everyone. And if you disagree, you must be worse than hitler.

      • It’s a shocker what’s going on up there, and sorry for having only touched on it briefly. Heck, even the traditional land “owners” want the gas hub.

The protesters does give a toss about the land or the hub really. They only give a toss about their naive cause and as you mentioned above, holding virtuous sway over those whom they consider inferior.

Pardon my French, but what a bitch for missing her son’s graduation.

    • Melanie Philips, “Blind ideology is dancing on the grave of reason”:

“This is because the progressive mindset believes it is synonymous with virtue itself. All opposition is therefore not just wrong but evil. Since progressives also believe anyone who opposes them is a right-winger, it follows that all dissent is right-wing and evil, and so must be shut down.”

      • Good one! WOZ too, of course.

Thanks for finding that. I thought I’d saved the link somewhere, but I couldn’t find it.

On Bolts the other day, someone condensed a lifetime of thought about the Left into a simple rule – “They always think they are the smartest person in the room.”
So I’ve been applying it to all the L/R posts for a couple of days. It fits. And all the positions flow from this simple factor:
‘You have a different opinion to me, but I am the smartest person in the room. So therefore you must be wrong.’
