Multiculturalism at its best

And I’m suppossed to respect this???

A woman acted on her motherly instinct when she helped her son after he murdered her lover in a so-called “honour killing”, a judge has been told.

Nita Iskandar’s barrister David Price also said that if she had not been related to the person convicted of the murder, the judge would be receiving a victim impact statement from her.

“The man she loved, her best friend … someone she wanted to marry was brutally murdered in the street because her husband would not accept the relationship she had with him,” he said.

Mr Price was making submissions in the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday at the sentencing hearing of Iskandar and her 21-year-old son.

They sat close to each other in the dock and at one stage she rested her head on his shoulder, and later patted his arm.

Bizarre.

Honour killings have no place in the Australian psych.

UPDATE

More honour killings, this time in Canada.

A jury on Sunday found three members of an Afghan family guilty of killing three teenage sisters and another woman in what the judge described as “cold-blooded, shameful murders” resulting from a “twisted concept of honor,” ending a case that shocked and riveted Canadians.

Prosecutors said the defendants allegedly killed the three teenage sisters because they dishonored the family by defying its disciplinarian rules on dress, dating, socializing and using the Internet.

The jury took 15 hours to find Mohammad Shafia, 58; his wife Tooba Yahya, 42; and their son Hamed, 21, each guilty of four counts of first-degree murder. First-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Rhetorical question, I know, but just what kind of sick and twisted mindset makes it “OK” for a mother to kill her daughters, a father too, and a brother to kill his sisters?

And by the looks of it, the girls’ only crime was trying to assimilate into their adopted culture.
